As many of you who have followed me over the past years know, this past Sunday, Jan 10 would have been my late wife Katie’s 38th birthday. Aaron and Kristin were Katie’s and my closest friends, and they came to spend part of the day with us on Sunday before visiting Kate’s grave, as we often do. Katie and I prayed for years that Aaron and Kristin would be blessed with a family, and I know Katie has been interceding on their behalf in heaven. Now this blog isn’t about me and it isn’t about Katie, so I share that background here in order to share something truly incredible that we found out on Sunday:
Aaron and Kristin are adopting TWINS!
Two beautiful, healthy babies – a boy and a girl – were born on Dec 31, 2020, and on Sunday their birth mother finalized her decision with the adoption agency to give them to Aaron and Kristin to adopt! As you can imagine, Aaron and Kristin are scrambling to make sure they have two of everything – two car seats, double the bottles, double the clothes, double the diapers, and much much more. They will be taking custody of their new son and daughter in the coming days, and I would love nothing more than to take a few big worries off their list so that they can fully enjoy these first days and weeks with their new children. With that in mind, I’m asking you to share this post and also to consider donating to help them cover the final legal expenses associated with adoption.
As of this writing, 75 donors have donated $14,074 – truly incredible charity! In order to cover those legal expenses and to give a small cushion, I’ve increased the goal on the giving site to $24,000 – an additional $10,000. I know that we just made it through the holidays and that making additional charitable donation in January is difficult. Regardless, I ask you to prayerfully consider giving Aaron and Kristin the gift of some financial breathing room as they welcome the newest members of their family to their home.
Additionally, if you feel called to gift them something from their registry, Aaron and Kristin are registered on Baby List at www.babylist.com/baby-kristin-wegenka .
There is no doubt in my mind that Katie’s intercession played a huge role in this birth mother selecting Aaron and Kristin for these twins. Having the news come through on Katie’s birthday only underscores that fact for me – like a little wink from heaven, reminding us that she’s praying for us and interceding on our behalf. Whether you’re able to donate or not, please join me, Theresa, Kristin, and Aaron in thanking God for the gift of these twins, and in praying for Katie’s continued intercession for the remainder of the adoption process.
