If you've known Aaron and Kristin for any amount of time, you likely have experienced their ability to continually surround those they love with deep devotion and a desire to show up, always. This desire has naturally led them in discernment of adoption! They are some of our closest friends and are practically second parents to our children. Our kids love being with them, and I’m honestly just a little bit jealous of the child that will call them Mom and Dad. Truth be told, I applied, but apparently asking your friends to adopt a 37-year-old married father of five is “complicated” and “weird.”
I’m sure you have your own stories about how they made an impact on your life, dropped everything to be with you through a tough time, celebrated a major life event with you, gave up their Saturday to help you with a project, or listened when you needed an ear. I’m beyond blessed to have more stories with them than I can remember. Here’s a short one I’ll never forget.
Living in Houston, everyone remembers where they were the last week of August, 2017. Hurricanes aren’t rare in Houston, but the big ones leave an impression. We had lost Katie to cancer 5 months earlier, and I was at home in Meyerland with the kids – John (7), Lily (6), Thomas (4), and Andrew (2). Houston had begun its customary pre-hurricane preparations – buying everything you could carry from the grocery store and finding a place to hunker down. We knew from recent floods that Meyerland was at risk, and I had no desire to be stuck in a flooding home by myself with four young kiddos. Kristin and Aaron never hesitated, despite Aaron having recently sustained a knee injury and being laid up on the couch. I loaded up the van, and by the time we rolled up to their home in Katy, beds were already set up and the kids were welcomed in with bear hugs and smiles. If I remember correctly, I was also welcomed in with a cold adult beverage, but that might start another story. We stayed with them for the better part of a week, through 2am tornado warnings and non-stop footage of the flood rampaging through Houston.
Aaron and Kristin didn’t hesitate to welcome me and my family into their home and treat us like family. It’s who they are. Throughout our friendship, starting a family has always been their deepest desire, yet always out of reach for one reason or another. Now they are looking for someone who needs the love of a family, and are ready and waiting to welcome them in with open arms.
As a recipient, or even just a witness, of Aaron and Kristin's love and devotion, you know it would be impossible to repay. They have selflessly prioritized helping others before their own projects and plans and they typically just roll up their sleeves and take care of any of their own needs themselves. Which is why I am thrilled to have the opportunity to pay them back just a little for all that they have done for me and my family over the years, and I cannot wait to meet the newest addition to their family. Please join me in helping to make their dream of growing their family come true.
